CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the latest additions to its flagship lineup, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, showcasing upgraded camera hardware, faster processing capabilities, and longer-lasting batteries. These new models feature a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with an adjustable aperture, alongside the A20 Pro processor and a redesigned vapor chamber aimed at sustaining high performance. The Dynamic Island has been scaled down in size but expanded in functionality. Preorders are scheduled to begin on September 12, with initial retail sales starting on September 18.

The upgraded Main camera employs six laser-cut blades to regulate the aperture across four different settings. Users are able to manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. Additionally, the interface now includes a histogram for real-time exposure monitoring while composing shots. Apple has enhanced Photographic Styles by adding new controls for texture and grain. In terms of video, users can apply Cinematic effects after capturing footage at up to 60 frames per second. Moreover, time-lapse recording now supports 4K video with Dolby Vision HDR.
A notable feature, called Apple Reference Image, emphasizes verifying photograph authenticity. It captures signed sensor data alongside images taken with the Main camera. Private Cloud Compute then processes this data to generate a reference image that can be compared within the Photos app. Users can examine the reference against the primary photo to detect any visible modifications. Apple also plans to introduce SynthID support later in 2026. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s global marketing chief, emphasized improvements in camera, performance, battery life, and intelligence during the product launch.
Variable aperture introduces new creative control to iPhone photography
The A20 Pro chip is built on a 2-nanometer process technology and incorporates a six-core CPU along with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU offers performance boosts of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. The chip also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores. A redesigned thermal system positions the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber, which provides three times the surface area of its predecessor. Apple states this design results in up to 40% higher sustained performance.
Battery improvements are most prominent in eSIM-only variants, utilizing space previously allocated for a physical SIM tray. According to Apple, the iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback during testing, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours. Wired charging can bring the Pro models to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. eSIM-only versions will be available in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, among other markets.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI and broader Apple Intelligence features
All iPhone 18 Pro devices run iOS 27 and are compatible with the latest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish planned for October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos when responding to commands. It can also act on information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks supported by Private Cloud Compute complement on-device functions of Apple Intelligence.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the Pro Max begins at $1,299. Customers can choose storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. The phones will be available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy color options. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with sales beginning on September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions. An additional 20 markets will join the rollout on September 25, expanding access to Apple’s latest Pro series.
